Jeff Nish, Chair
Jeff Nish has been involved with the volunteer sector in Calgary for over 25 years. He served for six years on the Calgary Board of Directors for Scouts Canada and was the inaugural chair of the Canada Trust Friends of the Environment Foundation. As a workshop trainer and facilitator for the Board Development Program under Alberta Community Development, Mr. Nish became a recognized leader in the area of volunteer Board governance. He was recruited to the Board of Special Olympics Alberta for his Board governance expertise, eventually serving as Chair of the Board. more
Jeff Nish has been involved with the volunteer sector in Calgary for over 25 years. As a workshop trainer and facilitator for the Board Development Program under Alberta Community Development, Mr. Nish became a recognized leader in the area of volunteer Board governance. He was recruited to the Board of Special Olympics Alberta for his Board governance expertise, eventually serving as Chair of the Board. During his seven year tenure with Special Olympics, Mr. Nish led the Board’s transition from an operational to a true governance model. An engineer by training, Mr. Nish holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) degree from the University of Toronto and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta. Mr. Nish has spent his entire working career in the electricity industry, both in Ontario and Alberta. Mr. Nish was appointed CRCB PDD Board Chair for a three year term effective December 13, 2006. less

Jean Fraser, Vice-Chair
Jean Fraser has spent her life as a dedicated community leader and volunteer in the fields of health and education. She has served her community as a Board Member for the Calgary Regional Health Authority, Chair and Board Member of the Calgary Board of Health, Health Unit Association of Alberta, Mount Royal College Board of Governors as Chair and Vice –Chair, Alberta Colleges and Technical Institutes, Calgary Board of Education as Chair and Trustee and the Senate, University of Calgary. more

Pam Crosby
Born and raised in Calgary Ms Crosby has exceedingly deep ties to this community. She has raised a family here and now is excited to give time to both learn from, and provide guidance to, the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Board for Calgary and area. Ms Crosby has been involved in the voluntary sector both as a paid and volunteer professional since 1988. She has volunteered and worked in areas of health, mental health, international development, adult education, affordable housing, recreation and social services. more
Born and raised in Calgary Ms Crosby has exceedingly deep ties to this community. She has raised a family here and now is excited to give time to both learn from, and provide guidance to, the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Board for Calgary and area. Ms Crosby has been involved in the voluntary sector both as a paid and volunteer professional since 1988. She has volunteered and worked in areas of health, mental health, international development, adult education, affordable housing, recreation and social services. She has had the great opportunity to serve her community, province and country by sitting on a cadre of organizational boards. Most recently Pam has completed her terms as President of the Board of Directors for the Alberta NWT Division of the Canadian Cancer Society and Director for that bodies’ National Board of Directors and the board of National Cancer Institute of Canada. She has recently been awarded the organizations highest honors; the Dr. John McEachern Provincial Award for distinguished service, and the National Honorary Life Membership award for Leadership. Ms Crosby holds as a value the gift of life long learning. She has studied with Dr. John Carver, been awarded a National Fellowship from the Voluntary Sector Initiative and most recently she has completed a Master of Arts program with a joint foci in Leadership and Organizational Development. As a paid professional Ms Crosby has been involved as a Senior Executive for several Voluntary Sector Organizations. Currently Pam is President of her own Consulting Firm, Capacity Consulting, “ building sustainability in the voluntary sector”. Through her company Pam has continued to work with Voluntary Organizations across the country and more recently with the Government of Alberta. Her interest expertise in the areas of governance, leadership, public policy, organizational development, mergers and acquisitions and building effective collaborations keeps her and a small team of dedicated professionals exceedingly busy and connected to some of Alberta’s most vulnerable populations. less

Bob Johnson
Bob Johnson has been a Social Worker for over 38 years and holds a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. His social work experience includes rural and urban social work. He has held numerous senior management positions in corrections, parole, child welfare, disability services, social care facilities and child and youth advocacy. He has taught social work part time at Mount Royal College for the last 21 years. more

He also currently serves as an appointed member of the Attendance Board (Education), the Law Enforcement Review Board (Alta Solicitor General) and the Incident Investigation Branch (Corrections Services Canada). less

Irene MacEachern
Irene MacEachern is a practicing lawyer who has volunteered in her profession and in the community for over twenty years. Ms. MacEachern has served as a Director and Vice - Chair of the Calgary Family Support Society and a Director of the Elder Statesmen Group. She has provided free legal advice to financially needy persons as a volunteer with Calgary Legal Guidance, the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter and the Sheriff King Home. more

Currently, Ms. MacEachern is Vice - Chair of the Calgary Association of Self Help and president of the Mount Royal Junior High School Parents' Council. She is also a member of the Volunteer Lawyers Service, which provides legal assistance to not-for-profit organizations in Alberta. Ms. MacEachern holds Bachelor degrees in Arts, Education and Law, as well as a Masters degree in Public Administration. less

Dr. L. Deborah Sword
Deborah Sword was raised by parents with disabilities. After practicing law for many years, she obtained a masters degree in environmental conflict resolution, and was a founding board member of a successful environmental business. Currently, Dr. Sword specializes in facilitating individual, group, team, and organizational solutions, training boards of directors in effective governance, and providing disability management facilitation. more
Deborah Sword was raised by parents with disabilities. After practicing law for many years, she obtained a masters degree in environmental conflict resolution, and was a founding board member of a successful environmental business. Currently, Dr. Sword specializes in facilitating individual, group, team, and organizational solutions, training boards of directors in effective governance, and providing disability management facilitation. She is active as a speaker, workshop presenter, and author. As a volunteer, Dr. Sword was co-founder of the Dispute Resolution Alliance of Ontario, policy advisor for Children’s International Summer Villages, and founding convener of the Council of Ontario Government Dispute Resolvers. She serves on the Boards of Directors of the University of Calgary Peace Consortium, Peer Support Services for Abused Women, and the Calgary Institute for the Humanities. less

Wayne Taylor
After a 20-year career with TransAlta Corporation in Calgary, in December 2000 Mr. Taylor established his own consulting practice specializing in utility industry regulation. From 2003 to 2008, Mr. Taylor was an Acting Member of the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board. In that capacity, Mr. Taylor participated as a tribunal member on a wide range of regulatory proceedings. more

Mr. Taylor has extensive experience on Boards and management committees, both professional and volunteer. Examples include positions with Farm Electric Services Ltd., Power Smart Inc., the Grid Company of Alberta (predecessor to the Alberta Electric System Operator), the Calgary Chamber of Commerce (Natural Resources Committee), the Bragg Creek Community Association, the 1st Bragg Creek Scouts, and a 180-unit condominium corporation. Mr. Taylor obtained his Bachelor and Master of Mathematics degrees from the University of Waterloo and completed the Executive Development Program at the University of Calgary. less

Dr. Alex Hillyard, CEO
Dr. Hillyard has worked in the human services field for more than 25 years, including his most recent accomplishments as the Chief Executive Officer, Calgary Region Community Board Persons with Developmental Disabilities. Since September 2005, Dr. Hillyard has ensured the Calgary Region’s commitment of service to adults with developmental disabilities and their support networks. more
Dr. Hillyard has worked in the human services field for more than 25 years, including his most recent accomplishments as the Chief Executive Officer, Calgary Region Community Board Persons with Developmental Disabilities. Since September 2005, Dr. Hillyard has ensured the Calgary Region’s commitment of service to adults with developmental disabilities and their support networks. He has worked to create partnerships within the greater community, collaborating on the development of Family Managed Supports in the Calgary Region, partnering on “Successful Transitions” with Alberta Children and Youth Services and assisting in the development of a Joint Service Initiative with the Calgary Health Region. Previously, he spent seven years as the CEO for the Northeast Alberta Community Board for Persons with Developmental Disabilities. He holds a Masters of Educational Psychology degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Alberta. During his career, Dr. Hillyard has worked on the front lines and in executive management positions. He has worked tirelessly in developing community-based employment initiatives and on building the capacity of communities to include individuals with developmental disabilities. In addition to this work, Dr. Hillyard has led many provincial projects and is currently participating in the Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS) Provincial Workforce initiative to address the issue of ensuring a strong, viable workforce in the community rehabilitation sector. less
