Calgary Region Community Board, Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD)
Our Vision
An Alberta that honours and respects the dignity and equal worth of persons with developmental disabilities.
Our Mission
To create an Alberta where adults with developmental disabilities are included in community life.
Our Values
Individuals with developmental disabilities:
- exercise choice and control over their lives;
- are increasingly involved in community activities;
- are provided with services and supports which are responsive, flexible, accessible and of consistent high quality.
What We Do
Calgary Region PDD supports individuals to be included in the community and we support the community to include these individuals.
We work with our community by listening and talking with people about what works and what could be enhanced to include individuals better.
These advisory groups include the Service Provider Council, Calgary Region Family Voices, Alberta Council of Disability Services and the Alberta Association of Community Living.
These advisory groups listen to the needs of the various groups within the Region and advises Calgary Region PDD staff on what they can do better.
What is the Calgary Region?
This is Calgary and all the places near Calgary. We serve about 2,600 people with developmental disabilities who live in the Calgary region.

What is the Community Board?
A board is a group of people who meet and talk about plans together. The PDD Board is made up of people from the community. There are family members and friends of people with developmental disabilities, teachers and others. Their job is to tell the Alberta Government what people with developmental disabilities need, want and should have. (We will call the Board "we," and adults with developmental disabilities "you.")
We want you to be able to take part in your communities, make friends and do things, just like everyone else.
Our job is to support you and make sure you have the services you need so that you can do that.
What We Think is Important
-
We think it is very important that you can make up your own mind about the life you want, and that the people who support you listen and help you with your plans.
-
We think it is very important that you can join in everything that goes on in your community and you can take part just as much as everyone else.
-
We think it is very important that you get good services and that they really work for you.
